55673f7fc1aa7.imageThe U.S. Census Bureau released the latest population estimates on May 21, and Texas retained its number one position for the state with the largest population increase.

Texas has three cities with one million or more people: Houston, San Antonio and Dallas.

Half of the 10 cities with the largest population gains between 2013 and 2014 were in Texas: Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Fort Worth, with each adding more than 18,000 people.

Texas also had seven of the top 15 fastest-growing cities by percentage with a population of 50,000 or more between April 1, 2010 and July 1, 2014:

2. Frisco: 145,035 (23.9%)

3. Cedar Park: 63,574 (22.9%)

4. McKinney: 156,767 (19.6%)

9. Conroe: 65,871 (15.6%)

10. Midland: 128,037 (15.2%)

11. Pearland: 103,441 (15.1%)

12. New Braunfels: 66,394 (15.0%)

As demonstrated by these numbers, Pearland, with a current population hovering around 109,000 people, is firmly rooted in the fastest-growing cities in the state. The Houston area in general is booming, even though the oil and gas industry is taking a hit right now.

The construction and manufacturing industries continue to do well, with the Port of Houston being a large source of economic stability for the area.

Pearland and Houston area residents may rest easy knowing that the local economy is still looking good in the Lone Star State.
