The bidding process is set to begin on June 16 for the Bailey Road widening project and construction is set to begin in August. The project will widen Bailey Road from FM 1128 to Veterans Drive from two lane asphalt with deep ditches to a four-lane boulevard with concrete curbs and gutters with 12-foot lanes and raised medians and underground drainage. The revised roadway will feature left-turn bays at certain intersections and traffic signals to assist with efficient traffic flows. The project also includes a 10-foot wide mixed-use path along the north side for cyclists and pedestrians.

The City’s widening of Bailey Road joins a similar project sponsored by Brazoria County which will widen Bailey from FM 1128 to County Road 90. Together, the two projects when completed will establish an east-west thoroughfare to draw traffic off FM 518.

The total construction estimate for the City’s project is estimated at $26.6 million, $7 million of which will be funded by the City. The Bailey project was awarded Transportation Improvement Program funding through the Houston-Galveston Area Council which partners with TxDOT to administer the funding. The City managed the design process and will manage the construction of the roadway.

To ensure residents are informed of construction progress, the City is will communicate any traffic changes in a number of ways:

  1. Traffic Alerts via email
  2. Social Media including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
