MayorPearland Golf Club at Country Place, located at 3123 Flower Ln. near the intersection of McHard Rd. and Hwy 288, held its groundbreaking ceremony for the back nine holes on Wednesday (Feb. 18).

Country Place and Lakes of Country Place were recently annexed into the City of Pearland. It was this fact, plus completed renovations on the first nine holes, that prompted the renaming of Country Place’s golf course.

General Manger James Sowell said, “We are semi-private. That means we do offer memberships and our members are our first priority. But we also allow the public to come out and play for a fee. We hope to eventually be a private club, but right now is a good time for any golfer to come enjoy the newly renovated front nine.”

Golf course architect Jerry Blume renovated the first nine holes, or the “front nine,” in 2014. New greens, tee boxes, sand traps, irrigation and fairway aerification systems were added for a more luxurious, quality experience.

The last nine holes, or “back nine,” will be renovated beginning in the spring.

The groundbreaking ceremony celebrated the completion of the front nine and the impending renovations of the back nine.

Mayor Tom Reid, Council Members Tony Carbone and Greg Hill and Jim Johnson from the Pearland Chamber of Commerce were on hand with shovels for the ceremony.

“I was here when this course was built,” said Mayor Reid. “I feel a sense of ownership here. This is the fourth golf course in Pearland, though it was one of the first. It is truly something Pearland can be proud of.”

Also present were Sowell, John Rizzo with Pearland State Bank, who financed the project, and members of the new management company, CP Egret: President Michael Bell, Vice President Robert Williamson, Secretary Gayle Boitman and Treasurer Susan Langston.

Country Place residents Sandra Eliason, Diane Williams and were the co-chairs of the event.

The Pearland Golf Club at Country Place features 18 holes (nine are currently open), a driving range, a full-service grill called Tee Time, managed by CJ Gidry, a Pro Shop and a meeting room to accommodate tournaments. It is open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily.
